Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering Department was started in the year 2005 with total intake 60 but later on 2012 increased to 120 . This largest department of the institute is headed by highly qualified and huge experienced person having 15 years of experience in Indian Government Defense Organization and more than 11 years of excellent experience in academic. All the faculty members are truly dedicated to teaching and learning.
Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest branches of engineering and is called an ‘evergreen branch’ because of the steady demand of mechanical engineers from the industry. It caters the needs of almost all the sectors of industry especially to the needs of Automobiles, Railways, Aviation, Thermal Power Plants, Hydro Power Plants, Textile, Petroleum, Chemical, and a variety of other industries.
The Mechanical Engineering Department of KNGDMEC is fully equipped to meet the requirements of B.Tech courses. It has the following laboratories:

Workshop Practice Lab
The workshop with a diverse collection of machine tools, hand tools and measuring instruments is housed in an area of 900 square meters. The labs facilitated in the central workshop are as:
Machine shop
Welding shop
Smithy & foundry shop
Carpentry shop
Fitting shop
Sheet metal shop
All shops are established as per the AICTE norms with best machines/ equipments consistent with the educational requirements.

Drafting Studio

It is well said that the Engineering drawing is the language of engineers. This Laboratory introduces the student to engineering drafting as a means of technical communication and provides a firm foundation for working in engineering design and drafting divisions in industry. Computer aided drafting is used extensively in the course. In this lab student is enabled to have an introductory level of CAD skills which has become a compulsion in the modern industry.

This lab is equipped with the state of the art drafting studio which includes full imperial size drawing boards, comfortable stools and latest computers installed with latest CAD software to give in depth knowledge to the students.

Engineering Mechanics Lab
The Engineering Mechanics Laboratory is a subject which will help engineers to understand the application of theory that he has studied in practice by performing experiments and verifying results. Besides the above, the objective of the curriculum with effective skill will be developed in them to observe experimental data, and to analyze the results. These topics of this curriculum will certainly build their confidence in performing the utilization of principle of mechanics in engineering works.

Material Science & Testing Lab
All engineering materials used in structures & mechanisms must be known for their mechanical properties. In this lab the students are made conversant to the basic principles & testing methodologies for tests for tensile & compressive strength, toughness, hardness, torssional & bending strength.

Heat & Mass Transfer Lab
Heat and mass transfer are the areas of engineering that address how quickly energy or material substances move from one place to another. Understanding these phenomena is essential to designing and analyzing heating and cooling operations, and most separation processes.
The Heat and Mass Transfer Laboratory offers experiments for boiling-film heat transfer, countercurrent heat exchange, thermal conductivity, home heating system design, and radiation. Mass transfer experiments include membrane separations and liquid-liquid extraction.

Measurement Metrology Lab
Metrology is the science of measurement. At the base of metrology are the definition, realization and dissemination of units of measurement the students need to understand the basic principles and uses of different types of precession and other measuring equipments. In the measurement & metrology lab the students are made convergent with all these equipments.

Dynamics of Machines Lab
An awareness of the way machines work is fundamental to most engineering courses. Students need to understand the principles of mechanical advantage, cams, vibration and mechanical movement to give them a solid foundation of knowledge about mechanical system behavior. This knowledge will serve them throughout their academic and future engineering careers. The Dynamics of Machines Lab teach the principles and theory of laws / principles in mechanical mechanism.

It is a well known fact that the present era is of computers and the mechanical engineering is no exception.
The CAD/CAM lab is equipped with the latest computers and software to cater the two and three dimensional design and drafting needs. An CNC machines is provided to inculcate the modern machining by controlling the tool movement through computers.

Automobile Engineering Lab
Automobile sector is one of the fastest growing sectors. In automobile lab a student learns the functioning of all its systems. This lab is equipped with various cut sections of engine parts, body / chassis and other parts.

Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulic Machine Lab
The laboratory is designed to give introduction to basic t fundamentals of mechanics of fluid by demonstrating through experimental procedures.
The range of experiments provided covers the complete field of the “Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics for Engineering” such as: Pipe friction,. Laminar and turbulent flow, Bernoulli’s principle, Osborne Reynolds, Hydrostatic pressure, Impact of a jet, Orifice discharge, Vortex, Flow visualization, Flow meters, Flow channel, Turbo-machines: centrifugal pump, Pelton and Francis turbine, Hydraulic ram pump, etc.

Keeping cool has been a human preoccupation for millennia, in this modern era refrigeration & air-conditioning will be the most wanted field of engineering. With the increase of living standards the comfort air conditioning is no longer considered a luxury but a fact of modern existence. The industrial use need not be emphasized
The RAC lab is equipped with all the equipments to give a comprehensive knowledge about the basic principles of refrigeration and air-conditioning, consistent with the syllabus.

Admission to the programme shall be for the benefit for the students who passed 12th from UP board/CBSE/ICSE etc., admitted in the B. Tech programme during the academic session 2016-17 and onwards.

Admission shall be on the basis of merit of UPSEE examination conducted by AKTU Lucknow through counseling students in their first and second semester of the B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering programme.
